John is a Californian-born, New York-based actor known for his work on television, stage and voiceover. On TV, he is best known for his guest star roles on "Billions" (Showtime), "Elementary" (CBS), and the Netflix/Marvel series "Iron Fist". John originated the role of Ned Ryerson in Broadway's Groundhog Day, and has appeared in multiple Broadway productions, starring as Mr. Wormwood in the Tony-winning hit Matilda the Musical. He also starred as the comic villain Black Stache in the First National Tour and Broadway productions of the 5-time Tony-winning play Peter and the Starcatcher. He played Sergei in the original Broadway cast of Matilda, won critical acclaim as Stuart Vaughan in Richard Nelson's Illyria at the Public Theater, and starred in the critically-acclaimed off-Broadway remount of Caryl Churchill's Cloud Nine at the Atlantic Theatre.
His other TV appearances include the television movie "Last Man Standing" on Lifetime TV with Catherine Bell and Mekhi Phifer, and the series finale of "The Following" on FOX, as well as a number of independent films.
John is also a prolific voiceover artist. He can be heard as multiple characters on the video games Minecraft and Batman. He voices many national and regional television and radio commercials, and is the voice of the Mucinex campaign.
Born and raised in Northern California, John earned a degree with honors from the University of Oregon. He moved to Chicago and worked as an actor at the city's top theatres including Goodman, Steppenwolf, Chicago Shakepeare, Writers' Theatre and Drury Lane Oakbrook. He is emeritus ensemble at Stage Left Theatre and a former artistic associate at Chicago Dramatists.
